Once-safe red states are sliding into play: Texas and Florida look genuinely competitive, and North Carolina and Georgia may already be gone for Republicans. Ken Paxton spent 11 years treating the TX Attorney General’s office like a personal travel budget. Now it’s a Senate campaign liability.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The AP’s reporting<\/a><\/u>\u00a0found Paxton has billed Texas taxpayers $1.9 million in security costs for more than 275 out-of-state trips \u2014 golf at the Masters, Napa Valley wine country, a July 4th in the UK \u2014 while leaving roughly 730 workdays unaccounted. It lands at the worst possible moment for Paxton, now the GOP Senate nominee in a race that’s tightened to within two points against Democrat James Talarico. This is the kind of story that doesn’t require spin: it’s a paper trail of self-dealing that Talarico and every Democratic messenger in Texas should be running on through November. Texas was never supposed to be a top-tier Senate race \u2014 Paxton’s own record is helping make it one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
