I recently read the Fall of Roe by Dias and Lerer. It tells the devastating story of the last decade of work on both sides of the abortion debate. What it takes for granted is that abortion rights have been under attack since the day Roe became law, more than 50 years ago. 50 years of the anti-abortion movement fighting against women’s reproductive rights, sometimes lurching forward and then back, sometimes chipping away piece by piece. Those in that movement plotted, planned, stayed committed and brought new strategies and tactics to strip away our rights for almost 50 years. And then, one day in 2022, Roe was suddenly gone.
It’s been almost 10 years of Donald Trump. Ten years of MAGA and we are about to enter another four. We are facing the reality we, I, had hoped, pleaded, prayed, begged to avoid. But here we are. Exhausted, enraged, desperate, frightened. But the only way forward is through.

This fight has long been waged. The question I’ve been asking myself is how long have I really been in it? 10 years if I’m being generous, closer to 8 if I’m honest and less if I remember my true exhaustion from Trump which I solved by periodically tuning out. And now the question- how long am I willing to stay in this fight? Will I, can I go 50 years for the sake of my family, my community, my country to bring our rights and ideals back? The only answer is Yes.
Elizabeth Warren warned us, “We can’t control everything that comes next. But we can control how we respond.” She’s right. We must focus on what we can control. Today, what we can control is throwing our weight, our dollars behind every Democrat in a recount race.
The US House stands alone in a chance at a majority needed to stop an extreme right Trump agenda. But it’s also not the only place we must grind to dig out a victory. We must put up every roadblock, every legal challenge, every obstruction to this agenda we can. And right now, that means ensuring these Democrats have the money they need to mount or withstand a recount. Before votes were ever cast, we identified these races as top race opportunities to hold or flip, identifying them as critical races and we were right.
- IA-1 – Challenger Christina Bohannan is down 0.2% after making abortion rights center to her campaign. The race has yet to be called and a recount is possible, so additional support will help her and her staff to keep fighting.
- CO-08 – Incumbent Yadira Caraveo is winning by just 0.6%. As they count remaining ballots, Yadira needs our support in the event of a recount or a head start as a vulnerable incumbent.
- MD-06 – Open seat candidate April McCain Delaney is currently ahead by just 0.1% (348 votes!). Mail in ballots can be counted through November 15th – support this race so that we can help get April across the finish line and hold this seat for Dems.
- PA-SEN – Incumbent Bob Casey is currently down by just 0.4% and has to keep fighting to help our Senate margin. Provisional ballots are still being counted statewide. In addition, military and overseas ballots must be received by 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, to be counted. Help Bob fight to the last ballot!

It will take four years to turn out Trump. It may be less, it may take many more to blunt MAGA. But, at some point, just as it felt with Roe, suddenly MAGA will be gone. But only if we do the work.
