Who would have the thought that a Democrat Majority House would run through Alabama? The Supreme Court apparently.
FLIP AL-2:
Democrat Shomari Figures, raised $895K in 2024 vs Republican Caroleene Dobson, raised $2.24M in 2024
This year, AL-2 has brand new district lines thanks to what is left of the now shredded Voting Rights Act. A little history- in 2021, the Republican majority in the AL state legislature drew new voting districts. Despite black residents making up 27% of AL’s population, only one of AL’s seven districts had a majority black district. Voters sued and won, and a judge ordered new districts drawn. Despite this, our Supreme Court refused to implement the new maps in 2022 with the guise of being “too close” to the election to enforce the new maps. Thus, Republicans retained this seat in 2022, despite lower courts having already deemed those maps illegal. In 2023, the Supreme Court officially ruled that they agreed with lower courts and put the AL legislature back to work drawing fair maps. Despite this, and we shouldn’t be surprised, AL refused to comply with the Supreme Court order. Another two months of legal maneuvering went by before the Supreme Court affirmed that AL must comply with two majority black congressional districts. This is that seat, the second majority black district, now known as AL-2. This seat should have been flipped in 2022 if the courts had enforced the ruling then. Black voters are ready to show their voting power. We need to show up to support them.
The Senate is looking shaky for Democrats, but our prospects for Flipping the House remain strong. Flipping AL-2 is a critical seat not only for the much deserved black voters in AL, but for all Dems looking to take back the House majority in November. Your dollars go directly to support AL-2.
